SUPERB BLACK AND WHITE DEEP CAMEO 1899 $2.50, GRADED PR66 BY PCGS/CAC

The 1899 is, along with the 1898, the most available Proof quarter eagle made during the 19th century. It is also among the best made Proof gold coins of any date or denomination as the present example clearly displays.

This coin has an incredible naked eye appearance, and I think it is very conservatively graded. I can easily see it in an PR66+ holder, or even as a PR67 DCAM. The bright and intensely mirrored fields appear to be entirely free of hairlines or any mint-made flaws.

The last PCGS PR66 DCAM 1899 Quarter eagle to sell at auction brought $19,200 as Heritage 7/2022: 3226, while Legend sold the same PCGS/CAC PR66+ DCAM three times between 9/2015 and 6/2019 for $32,900 (twice), and again for $34,075.

This will make a terrific type coin.

CAC has approved six in PR66 DCAM with 14 finer.
