RARE GEM PROOF 1903 LOUISIANA PURCHASE MCKINLEY GOLD DOLLAR GRADED PR65 BY PCGS

For both this issue and its counterpart the 1903 Louisiana Purchase Jefferson gold dollar, a total of 100 Proofs for each type were made. The McKinley is very scarce while the Jefferson is very rare. These were issued in a sealed display frame with the coin housed between two pieces of waxed paper and a calligraphic certificate which states that the coin was one of the first hundred from the dies. The quality of this issue in Proof is excellent.

This piece shows some contrast between the frosted devices and the reflective fields. What appears to be a planchet flaw on the reverse is, in fact, a tiny piece of plastic which broke off during the slabbing process. If the buyer requests this, I will be happy to return the coin to PCGS and have them reslab it minus the plastic fragment.

A rare and very undervalued issue, in my opinion.
