1883-CC HALF EAGLE GRADED AU58 AND APPROVED BY CAC
I’ve had very little success buying better-date CC half eagles in the Fairmont sales as they always seem to bring about 15% too much. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I bought this very nice and very scarce coin for $500 under my maximum bid of $11,000 hammer.
The coin has great color and is well-detailed with no weakness on the eagle’s neck or leg feathers. Some marks can be seen on the obverse, but none are detracting.
SB has sold two other Fairmont 1883-CC half eagles in this grade with CAC approval. One went for $14,400 in March 2023, while the other fetched $16,800 in August 2022. And in August 2023 this firm sold a PCGS/CAC AU55 for $12,000.
An excellent value for the advanced date collector of CC half eagles.
CAC has approved 12 in this grade with 6 finer.
