I'm not really certain what the best way to de-clog the market's arteries are. Some of these coins ARE likely to get downgraded by their owners (or by the services) but this is a small fraction and it would tend to be the "best of the worst." My best guess is that as the market gets stronger, the bottom feeders of old are likely to come back in force and take alot of the "swill" off the market. Unfortunately, much of this swill is going to wind-up in the collections of gullible newbies and the cycle will continue to perpetuate itself.

Doug, PLEASE DO a show market report as often as you possibly can. Even being at some of the same shows, I can't wait to hear your & other dealers comments. As for the slabbed flotsom and jetsom at these shows (artery cloggers) I find them & the dealers who sell them to be very entertaining. In reality I read the solution somewhere: they need to be regraded in lower grade holders to "go away". In my area of interest I have found a few horrible, horrbile coins in holders (name of slab company witheld). I also would like to see these go away before it ruins new potential coin enthusiasts from jumping into an already exciting coin market.

I would think the artery cloggers would disappear when their prices drop to a more reasonable level. Personally, I hope they don't disappear off the market too soon so that I can add some of the nicer coins to my collection at reasonable prices.

Doug, you are not the only commenter on the "problem coins" that are out there creating a two tier market. And you say, "My point is, until some of the crappy low-end coins that seemed to be everywhere at Long Beach (and I presume at every shows) are taken off the market, they will act as artery cloggers that continue to make the coin market unhealthy." O.K. Where do these coins go? They will not go into a melting pot to disappear off the market forever. Won't they in fact "hang around" forever? If they do hang around forever, will the market always be faced with these "artery cloggers". You have indentified the problem. What is a practical resolution? And how does the industry prevent more "problem coins" from coming onto the market? Thanks for your insights.
